Re: ensure. One needs to drink this product, but does not use cholov akum. Under what circumstances may one use it. Must a doctor prescribe it? Is the dairy content actual milk, or a milk derivative?

Different varieties of Ensure have different ingredients but I noticed 3 milk derived ingredients: milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, and sodium caseinate. Each of these ingredients may have the same Cholov Yisroel leniencies as cheese. (In some cases whey protein concentrate would also be subject to Gvinas Yisroel.)
I'm not going to address the medical needs aspect.
