Children who are Bar Mitzvah often make an embarrassing mistake. They say the literal word Hashem instead of Hashem's real name. This is because that is how they practiced. Are you allowed to practice with the Shem Hashem so they wont make the mistake. In a Posuk of Leining I am sure there is no problem but what about in a Brachah?

Saying Shem Hashem when practicing anything with your kids is not only muttar but preferable as that way they will learn to say it properly. Many people say Hashem like "Adnoy" which is incorrect. Saying "Adoi" and "Noi" together is the correct way.

About the Shema that wouldnt be a proof because that is not a Bracha but your Sheliah of the Brachos is definitely what we are looking for - Yehuda HaMaccabiSep 19  '12 at 13:27

When discussing the Din of one who misses out HaMelech HaKodosh and says his usual HaKeil HaKadosh the Mishnah Brurah says that he can assume he said the wrong one and has to repeat the Shmonei Esreh. He then suggests that the person say the words Baruch Atah Hashem HaMelech HaKodesh 90 times to get used to it as we find in other places but he says one it is Ossur because of Brachah Levatalah.

Thus it seems one may not recite a Brachah for practice alone!
