did the Early Yidden like Avraham Yitzchok and Yaacov wear Yamulkes or is it a new thing
did the Early Jews cover their heads?
There is a Gemara (Shabbos 118b) which lists statements of various Amora'im regarding their personal chumros. One of them goes as follows:
×מר רב ×”×•× × ×‘×¨×™×” דרב יהושע תיתי לי ×“×œ× ×¡×’×™× × ×“' ×מות בגילוי הר×ש
R. Huna the son of R. Yehoshua said, "May I be rewarded, for I never walk four cubits bareheaded."
Clearly he was remarking how he was doing something extraordinary; something that was not the norm at the time.
Brilliant, i also wanted to say this but couldnt remember the gemoro properly. but would this mean that all personal Memrehs of the Amoiroim were made up by them? what about the Amoirah who said he didnt think about Torah in the Toilet? that is really halacha so everyone should have kept that - DannyAug 24 '12 at 12:48
